Digital Magic Wedding Videos by Creative Wedding Videographer
Had to share this with you. Smile, laugh or weep. I did all of them having had a few photographers who insist on walking in front of the couple as they come down the aisle ruining the wedding video and the spectacle for all the guests. But then again you think “there but the grace of God”, as we often find ourselves walking backwards while filming!
Last Saturday saw us getting out of bed unusually early for Don and Della’s wedding. With all the kit prepared the night before, Natalie and me were up at the crack of dawn to drive into Worthing to film Don and Della’s wedding preparations. With a ceremony due to start at 10.30 am (the earliest ceremony we have eve filmed), every one had an early start.
We got some great preparation footage, especially Don’s reactions when he received an Omega watch as a wedding present from Della. Apparently he has a thing about watches and had wanted this particular model for ages. His face was a picture.
The ceremony was held at St. Michel’s Church in Lancing. Although it is local to me I have never been there before. A really nice, bright church with a friendly vicar with delightful gardens at the back. After the ceremony everyone left for the reception at The Walled Garden at Cowdray and it was still morning!
The Walled Garden is one of my favourite venues with it’s laid out gardens and ruins. There are so many little locations for getting great footage. The highlight of the day, for me, was the the blessing held when the arrived at the reception. The bride and Groom and families were led into the ceremony room by Sri Lankan dancers while the priest was blowing a conch shell. Very colourful and moving. My thanks to the bride’s father who kept moving people out of the way when the accidental stood in front of the camera.
A colourful, pleasant day with lovely people. But we were both knackered when we arrived home at 11.00 pm after 15 hours filming. With many hours of footage, the edit is going to be a bit of a mammoth task, but I hope to be able to post a clip sometime in the future
Steve and Lisa were married on 4th June 2010 at All Saints Church in Eastbourne. We have taken this short montage from their wedding video showing their friends and family congratulating the newly-weds immediately after the ceremony.
At last we had a sunny, summer day after all the wet weddings of previous weeks. The day didn’t get off to a wonderful start with the Church Manager telling us where we could and couldn’t stand for filming the ceremony.
Why do these people make life so difficult. He first started by trying to tell us that everybody filmed from the side aisle, tucked behind a pillar. I pointed out the fact that we would only get a side, rear view of the couple and when the congregation stood up we would be totally blocked! After several other suggestions, all of which meant that we really wouldn’t be able to get any half decent footage I explained that the wedding video was very important to Steve and Lisa – but this fell on deaf ears amidst mutterings of “I remember the good old days when photographers and video weren’t allowed in church”!
No wonder fewer people are getting married in church these days! In the end I settled for filming from the back of the church.
With the Sony EX1 on a long zoom and the use of a radio mic plus a portable audio recorder we ended up with some beautiful shots during the ceremony. I think the Steve and Lisa will be very pleased. It is this type of situation that separates the professional from the wannabe videographer. Professional equipment and experience prevented the day collapsing into disaster.
The clip shows a short montage, taken from their wedding video. Although the footage is fairly normal it was helped greatly by Steve and Lisa’s inspired musical choices which included, Elbow, Zutons, Seasick Steve, Zero 7 Air and the Maccabees. This refreshingly different choice of music allows us to be a bit more creative in the edit and produce a wedding video that was unique, well-paced and fun.
Luckily its our quieter time of the year. Steve and Jill, a couple of Australians over here studying, phoned last week to see if we were available this Sunday. At the last moment they had decided that none of their relatives in Australia would every be able to see them getting married – and decided that they should have their wedding filmed. Luckily we were still free, so off we go today.
The wedding is just up the road from us in Storrington. They are only having the ceremony filmed so it will only be a couple of hours and back home 15 minutes later! Makes a change from our more normal 12 hour filming day and a couple of hundred miles traveling!
We’ll be using two cameras for the ceremony plus additional audio recorder (as well as camera mic and radio mic) so we should have everything and every angle covered to give them a lovely wedding video. All their relatives will be able to watch the ceremony as if they were there
